Comedian Weinbach Wins Kaufman Award

NEW YORK--San Francisco standup Brent Weinbach won the Andy Kaufman Award at The Comedy Festival in Las Vegas Friday night.

The third annual TCF, organized by HBO and AEG Live, is the first featuring the Kaufman Award. Previously handed out as part of the New York Comedy Festival, the award recognizes comedians who have an original approach. It was created to carry on the spirit of late comedy legend Andy Kaufman and his unique style as a performer.

Weinbach won the Kaufman award in Friday night's final featuring seven other comics in the Emperors Ballroom at Caesars Palace.

The show was hosted by last year's winner Reggie Watts and 2005 Kaufman winner Kristen Schaal.
