Comedy Central hires Lisa Leingang

Named senior vp original programming and development

Comedy Central has tapped Lisa Leingang as senior vp original programming and development East Coast.

Based in New York, she will oversee development and production for all Comedy Central original programs based on the East Coast, reporting to Los Angeles-based Lauren Corrao, president of original programming and development.

Leingang will fill the void left by the December departure of Lou Wallach, who segued into producing and exec produces the channel's freshman series "Michael & Michael Have Issues."

Said Corrao of Leingang: "She is one of those people who has been tapped into the comedy world for almost her entire career. She is incredibly passionate, and the talent loves her."

Leingang, who managed improv troupes out of college, made her mark during her seven-year stint as New York-based producer for NBC and NBC Uni TV Studio in charge of development and recruitment of acting and writing talent on the East Coast and overseas. She inked the first U.S. development deal for then-little-known New Zealand duo Flight of the Conchords and also signed Demetri Martin for his first TV project.

Leingang most recently was New York-based vp primetime programming and development at CBS, where she also covered the international market and produced a monthly comedy showcase of top New York comedic talent.

Some of Comedy Central's biggest shows have originated from New York, including "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report," on which Leingang will serve as the network's liaison, as well as "Chappelle's Show" and "Important Things With Demetri Martin," which recently relocated to Los Angeles.
