The streaming video stick has added seven new apps

Google is boosting content on its Chromecast streaming stick ahead of the holiday season. The company announced Tuesday that it has added seven new apps including Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and Sesame Street Go.

The $35 dongle, which plugs into the back of a TV to enable it for streaming, now also works with movie channel EPIX, Indian programming service YuppTV, the Starz's ENCORE Play app and international radio provider TuneIn.

Google was the first to market with a consumer-oriented streaming stick, which retails for a significantly lower price point than the standard $99 for streaming boxes such as Roku and Apple TV. But since debuting the Chromecast in 2013, Roku and Amazon have both introduced streaming sticks of their own. Google has also since entered the streaming box game with the Nexus Player, a device that works using smart TV platform Android TV.
