For content, ITV adds Iacono

ITV content head Dawn Airey has poached Sony executive Peter Iacono to serve as president and managing director of ITV Worldwide, its global content division.

His appointment, announced Wednesday, follows last month's announcement that Paul Buccieri would head ITV's Los Angeles production business, Granada America, and signals Airey's commitment to bulking up ITV's global programming footprint.

Iacono comes from Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, where he most recently served as acting president of international features.

As president and managing director of ITV Worldwide, Iacono will oversee expansion of ITV's worldwide sales, distribution, merchandising, publishing and licensing arm ITV Worldwide, which includes Granada International and Granada Ventures. He also will work closely with the heads of each department to ensure "full 360-degree value" for ITV Prods. and build strong relationships with key broadcasters and producers around the world.

"There is a real demand for U.K. content at the moment," Airey said, "and this role will be critical in ensuring that we exploit maximum value in global markets from our programs, formats, licenses and merchandising."

ITV has enjoyed some international format successes with such titles as "Dancing on Ice" and "Saturday Night Takeaway," and its drama successes include features like "Prime Suspect."

But it has failed to create the same scale of hit in recent years as other British companies including the BBC, which launched a huge international hit with its "Dancing With the Stars" format, or FremantleMedia, with its "Idol" franchise.
