Core Media Teams With U.K.'s Big Minded for Joint Venture

The agreement calls for Core Media's guidance in bringing Big Minded formats to the U.S. and other parts of Europe.

Core Media Group is teaming with U.K.'s Big Minded for a joint venture.

Through the pact, Core Media will work with Big Minded to globalize their business model via format sales to U.S. and European broadcasters while continuing to invest in its U.K. development pipeline.

"We are impressed with Big Minded's energy and creativity, and their focused approach to the business of generating smart ideas that have real international appeal,” said Clare Thompson, creative director international at Core Media Group. “We're looking forward to working together to get their ideas out beyond U.K. broadcasters."

“This joint venture ensures a shot of adrenaline in our focus to become a market leader in the creation and sale of innovative global IP,” said Big Minded’s Chris Graves. “Core’s international clout, resources and collective industry pedigree will supersize our business model, while allowing us to retain our independence in the U.K. television market.”

Core Media currently has deals in place at more than 30 networks, with projects like A&E's Highway to Heaven with Mark Wahlberg through its joint venture with Halfire Entertainment. Big Minded, meanwhile, is developing several projects for networks and digital platforms in various areas.

Big Minded was founded by Chris Graves and Jolene Ellis, who co-created ITV2's Celebrity Juice and MTV's Geordie Shore.

Core Media, rebranded in May 2012 (from CKX, Inc.), has a portfolio of properties and brands that include American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance.

This is the latest development in a growing number of U.S.-based production companies eyeing international outfits in an effort to expand globally. Earlier Wednesday, Charlie Ebersol's The Company teamed with Israel-based Dori Media to develop and produce scripted and unscripted formats.
