Cosio steps down at Blockbuster Mexico

MEXICO CITY -- Diego Cosio, Blockbuster's senior vp for Latin America and general manager for Mexico, is exiting the company as of Nov. 1. He will return to PepsiCo, where he worked prior to joining the home video giant nine years ago.

Cosio's responsibilities will be divided between executives Ricardo Vega and Alejandro Messmacher, Dallas-based Blockbuster said Wednesday.

Vega, currently Blockbuster's vp and general manager for Argentina, Chile and Uruguay, has been promoted to vp and general manager for Mexico. He will report directly to Blockbuster North America president Nick Shepherd.

Messmacher, vp of finance and new business for Blockbuster Mexico, will take on an expanded role as vp Latin America. He will be responsible for Argentina, Chile and Blockbuster's Latin American franchise markets.

Edward Arguelles, currently vp of operations and development in Mexico, was named vp and general manager of Chile. He will report to Messmacher.

Blockbuster is Mexico's No. 1 video-rental chain.
