Court TV cuts Web staff


NEW YORK -- As part of Time Warner's plan to rebrand Court TV as truTV, the company is making a number of major changes to the network's online business, eliminating 16 Web staffers and shifting all digital trial content to

In a memo to Court TV staffers, GM Marc Juris outlined the network's short-term digital strategy, noting that the new site will be designed as a "destination with an abundance of video content and materials exclusive to the Web."

Starting Jan. 1, when Court relaunches as truTV, the network's afternoon trial coverage "will shift to from," Juris said. He added that CNN plans to launch a new enhanced section,, that will replace, "providing a strong destination for crime news, trial coverage and news from the Justice Department."

In addition to the 16 online staffers that are being let go, Court is "reducing positions in some other areas -- six in operations and two in daytime," Juris said. Fifteen employees of will remain on board to work on the new site, he added.

"We are saddened to let people go, but these changes are a necessary part of a larger strategic plan to make our network stronger," Juris said.
