Lucas Hedges also stars in the drama from his father, writer-director Peter Hedges.

Courtney B. Vance will join Julia Roberts and Lucas Hedges in the drama Ben Is Back

Hedges' father, filmmaker Peter Hedges (What's Eating Gilbert Grape, About a Boy), wrote and will direct the feature that takes place over 24 hours, following the charming-but-troubled Ben Burns (Lucas Hedges), who returns home to his unsuspecting family one fateful Christmas Eve. Ben’s wary mother, Holly (Roberts), welcomes her beloved son, but soon learns that he is still in harm’s way.

Vance will play Holly’s husband and Ben's stepfather, whose philosophy on how to handle his stepson puts him at direct odds with his wife.

Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson's Color Force and Teddy Schwarzman's Black Bear Pictures are producing, alongside the elder Hedges. 30WEST and Black Bear will fully finance Ben Is Back, which is shooting in New York. CAA is handling U.S. rights for the pic, with Sierra/Affinity handling international.

Vance, who won an Emmy for his work in People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, was last seen on the big screen in Universal's reboot of The Mummy. It was recently announced that the actor will reteam with American Crime Story network FX to star in and executive produce the crime drama Heist 88.

Vance is repped by Gersh, Lighthouse and Fox Rothschild.
