Cowboys vs. Colts ends in tie with 'Brother'

NEW YORK -- "Big Brother" and an early preseason NFL game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Indianapolis Colts brought CBS and Fox to a tie for Thursday night's adults 18-49 victory.

While final ratings data won't be available until later Friday, preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research gave the two networks identical ratings in adults 18-49 (2.7), while Fox had a slightly higher share of audience. CBS had the top show in viewership with a repeat "CSI" (10 million, 2.7/8) and in adults 18-49 with "Big Brother" (8 million, 3.0/10). It tied its highest ratings so far this summer.

Fox's Cowboys-Colts telecast averaged 7.2 million viewers and a preliminary estimate of a 2.7/8 in adults 18-49. If it holds in the final ratings, it's up 33% compared with a comparable game last year (2.1/7 on Aug. 10, 2006). Fox said it was the 12th straight demo win for the network, the first time in its history that Fox had won that many.

Neither ABC nor NBC was on the map with repeats of dramas and comedies all night.

Thursday averages: CBS (9.1 million, 2.7/9); Fox (7.2 million, 2.7/8); ABC (4.1 million, 1.3/4); NBC (3.7 million, 1.5/5); and the CW (2.4 million, 0.9/3).
