Criterion Collection Launching in U.K. Following Sony Deal

Lange has been nominated six times, including two nominations in the same year, 1983, when she won her first Oscar: best supporting actress in Tootsie. She took home another statue in 1995, this time for best actress in Blue Sky.

Six titles are included in the first slate of releases from Criterion's catalog.

The U.K. is getting its first taste of the Criterion Collection's film catalog.

Following a multi-year deal with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, the New York-based video specialist in "important classic and contemporary films" will launch titles from its slate in the U.K. for the first time.

The first wave of six Blu-ray titles includes Grey Gardens, It Happened One Night, Macbeth, Only Angels Have Wings, Speedy and Tootsie. All will come with the same supplements and exclusive artwork as the U.S. editions.

"We are excited to launch the Criterion Collection in the U.K.," said Criterion's CEO Jonathan Turell. "Starting with these six great titles, we are happy to be able to bring selections from Criterion to our very devoted audience in the UK. We are thrilled to build upon our strong relationship with Sony and look forward to expanding the Criterion audience."

Last year, Criterion and SPHE signed a multi-year extension to their distribution agreement in the U.S.
