'CSI' makes the crime scene with mobile debut

CBS Mobile said that the network's popular "CSI" franchise is making its debut as a mobile game in the U.S. this week.

The new cell phone game is part of a multiyear agreement with developer Gameloft to eventually bring mobile "CSI" titles to fans in more than 140 countries.

The first game, based on "CSI: Miami," was launched to coincide with the sixth-season premiere of that series. It can be accessed directly through AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon in the U.S, and while pricing is being set by Gameloft, the game is expected to cost $5-$6.

CBS Mobile executive vp Cyriac Roeding said that while there is no announcement other than the "CSI: Miami" game for now, they are looking at eventually bringing other "CSI" franchises to the mobile game arena.

"If you look at 'CSI,' it's the largest television property on the planet as a TV drama," he said, "so if you want to reach masses of people and introduce them to their first mobile gaming experience, this is property to go with."

Roeding added that the key to these mobile titles, aimed at casual gamers, is to come up with an experience that meets the expectations of the avid "CSI" fan. "That's why Anthony Zuiker, the creator of the 'CSI' franchise, was totally involved in the creation of this game, which brought us to a totally different level of storytelling," Roeding said.
