CTV Adds To Crime Drama Slate After 'Flashpoint'

Canadian broadcaster, seeing earlier cop dramas it developed sell worldwide, has optioned two crime novel series and is developing a third TV crime drama with Shaftesbury Films.

BANFF, ALBERTA – After its Flashpoint success, Canadian broadcaster CTV is getting deeper into crime dramas.

Parent Bell Media has optioned separate crime novel series by writers William Deverell and Giles Blunt, and is developing both as possible TV crime dramas.

And Shaftesbury Films, which produces the CTV supernatural crime drama The Listener, which earlier screened on NBC, is also developing for the Canadian network an adaptation of Old City Hall, written by criminal lawyer-turned-author Robert Rotenberg.

Shaftesbury is close to signing on a screenwriter to pen the script for the adaptation.

Giles Blunt is to adapt his own crime novel series for TV, and will focus on his main character detective John Cardinal.
