CTV cameraman killed in helicopter crash

Hugh Haugland was a 24-year veteran of the broadcaster

TORONTO -- Canadian broadcaster CTV on Wednesday said one of its news cameramen died when a helicopter he was flying in crashed northwest of Montreal.

Hugh Haugland, 44, died along with the helicopter pilot, Roger Belanger.

Haugland, who has worked at CTV for 24 years and is the son of retired CTV anchorman Bill Haugland, had been capturing aerial footage of devastation caused by a tornado on Tuesday night when the helicopter went down Wednesday morning.

"On behalf of everyone at CTV News and CTVglobemedia Inc., I extend our deepest condolences to the family of Hugh Haugland, who was tragically killed today while covering a story for CTV News in the Laurentian mountains," said Ivan Fecan, CEO of CTV and parent CTVglobemedia, in a statement.

Haugland is survived by two teenage daughters.
