CTV locks up 'Flashpoint' second season

New episodes will go into production in early 2009

TORONTO -- Canadian broadcaster CTV has ordered a second season of "Flashpoint," the homegrown cop drama that airs Thursday nights on CBS.

Toronto-based CTV, which originally developed the drama with indie producers Pink Sky Entertainment and Avamar Entertainment, picked up 13 new episodes that are expected to go into production in early 2009.

"Flashpoint," about an elite Toronto tactical police unit, has drawn an average 1.17 million viewers on CTV since its debut in mid-July. CBS, which picked up the show during the WGA strike this year, has pulled in an average weekly audience of 7 million viewers, initially on Friday nights and then on Thursdays at 10 p.m.

Alchemy Television and Tele-Munchen have pacted to sell "Flashpoint" internationally.

NBC is set to air another Canadian drama bought during the recent Hollywood shutdown, Shaftesbury Films' "The Listener."
