CTV Shuffles News Division

Canadian broadcaster girds for battle with Fox News North.

TORONTO -- Canadian broadcaster CTV has reshuffled its news division as it girds for new competition from conservative all-news channel Sun TV News.

Jack Fleischmann, general manager of Business News Network, CTV’s cable business channel, assumes additional duties as he oversees CTV News Channel, the broadcaster’s 24/7 cable news channel.

Fleischmann takes the helm at CTV News Channel as Sun TV News, dubbed Fox News North by liberal critics, gets set to launch in the Canadian market this spring with the moniker Hard News, Straight Talk.

CTV will also have Paul Rogers, senior vp of CTV News, become a point-man for the broadcaster’s nationwide network of TV news bureaus, advising on editorial matters, and David Hughes has been promoted to executive producer of CTV National News.

The management changes comes as phone giant BCE gets set to acquire CTV, likely in early April after it secures regulatory approval for the deal.
