Culton checks into 'Hotel'

Helmer set for a Sony Ani scare

Jill Culton will direct Sony Pictures Animation's "Hotel Transylvania," which is in bloody development, with Kevin and Daniel Hageman on board to write the screenplay.

In the story, a sort of "Romeo and Juliet" with monsters, Simon Van Helsing — the youngest in a long line of monster hunters — falls in love with Dracula's daughter. Upon the discovery that they are enemies, the couple attempt to bring peace between the monsters and humans.

Michelle Murdocca is producing and Amy Jupiter is co-producing.

Culton previously directed Sony Animation's "Open Season" with Roger Allers, with Anthony Stacchi as co-director. Murdocca produced and Jupiter co-produced that film.

"Transylvania" has been in development at Sony Animation for several years with several story iterations. Earlier, Stacchi and David Feiss, who served as head of story on "Open Season," were attached to direct.

The Brothers Hageman are repped by CAA and Underground Films and Management.
