The CW's final beast is risen

Wesley gets last lead in 'Vampire' pilot; ABC, NBC also fill roster spots

Paul Wesley is set to star opposite Nina Dobrev in the CW's drama pilot "Vampire Diaries."

In other pilot castings, Stephen Rannazzisi has joined NBC's comedy "State of Romance," and David Call has been added to ABC's drama "Empire State."

Based on the young-adult novels by LJane Smith, WBTV's "Vampire" centers on Elena (Dobrev), a tragic heroine who is the object of passion for vampire brothers Stefan (Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder).

Stefan is described as a "beautiful young man" who actually is a 200-year-old vampire with a strong connection to Elena. Wesley ("24") is repped by ICM and Thruline.

The UMS-produced "Romance" revolves around the relationship between Mike (Steve Howey) and Emily (Lindsey Broad). Rannazzisi ("Paul Blart: Mall Cop") will play Mike's roommate. He is repped by UTA and Brillstein Entertainment.

ABC Studios' "Empire" is a contemporary Romeo-and-Juliet tale about the love between blue-collar Sam (Mike Vogel) and wealthy Annabelle (Beau Garrett), whose fathers are nemeses. Call, repped by Gersh and Kass/ Stokes, will play Sam's younger brother. (partialdiff)
