D Films acquires 'Monsters'
Pick up Canadian rights to Gareth Edward's upcoming picTORONTO -- Indie distributor D Films has acquired the Canadian rights to Gareth Edward's upcoming feature "Monsters" from Magnet Releasing, the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures.
Edwards wrote, directed and edited the low-budget sci-fi pic about alien life disrupting the U.S.-Mexican border, which debuted at the recent SXSW festival.
"Monsters" stars Scoot McNairy and Whitney Able, and was produced by Allan Niblo and James Richardson of U.K.-based Vertigo Films.
The Canadian deal was hammered out between D Films president and CEO Jim Sherry and Magnolia senior vp Tom Quinn.
"Monsters" also screened as part of the Cannes market, where Protagonist Pictures secured a string of international deals.
