DailyCandy Partners With Tribeca Enterprises for 'Fashion in Film' Series

The women's lifestyle website expands its scope with a two-day, multiplatform film fest showcasing style shorts by Tribeca-sourced directors.

Since its multiplatform revamp in June, DailyCandy is turning up its digital game. The women’s lifestyle website, owned by NBCUniversal, is teaming up with Tribeca Film Festival’s parent company Tribeca Enterprises to launch “Fashion in Film,” a two-day public event taking place on Sept. 19 and 20 at New York’s Tribeca Cinemas.

The event is set to showcase two exclusive short films -- a narrative and a documentary -- as well as panel discussions with film and fashion insiders.

Alison Moore, DailyCandy’s general manager and executive vp, who previously headed HBO's digital platforms and ranked in The Hollywood Reporter’s Digital Power 50 list last year, tells THR that the partnership made sense given Tribeca’s leadership in celebrating new filmmakers, which reflects DailyCandy’s office motto of “discovering the undiscovered,” as well as allowing the website to further is recent push to expand video content.

“We really think it’ll be a great event that can celebrate, online and offline, the passion and intersection between film and fashion,” she says.

In collaborating with Tribeca, Moore shares her excitement for the two filmmakers who will feature their work during “Fashion in Film.”

“These up-and-coming directors are people we obviously want our consumer audiences, and everyone, to know -- whether in film, fashion or otherwise,” notes Moore. “People are going to want to know or hear about [them] because they have careers we think everyone is going to want to follow for years,” notes Moore.

Without revealing their names, the DailyCandy GM reveals that the two filmmakers are indeed women, "which was by no means a prerequisite when selecting the candidates for the event," she says. “We think these women will tell really positive and delightful stories around style, and we’re really excited about it. It was a definite hand-in-hand with Tribeca especially since they’re the best in class in terms of uncovering content creators.”

While the actual two-day event will be held offline, fans can join in on the action online through an event Instagram contest where they’ll be invited to upload a 15-second video about their fashion inspirations through special hashtags. Entries will be judged by DailyCandy editors, fashion and film influencers and visitors viewing the shorts on DailyCandy.com. Other content will also be posted exclusively on the website prior, during and after the event.
