Oscars Beauty: Daisy Ridley's Perfect Red Oscars Lipstick
Modern glamour all the way.
Red lips on a red carpet is not a new concept. But it’s a classic, and one that is constantly innovated upon. When she conceived of Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Daisy Ridley’s makeup for the Academy Awards on Sunday night, makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua wanted something that would contrast with her sparkling blue-gray Chanel gown.
The timeless solution? A scarlet pout, of course. But she didn’t use just any red lipstick. "What I was really excited about with Daisy’s lips tonight and doing this red is that I’ve never used a product that was so yummy feeling and conditioning and also left such a modern finish," says Yoshimoto Bua. "It’s not thick, it goes on really thin with more of a stain feeling, but it’s moisturizing, not drying, and has so much pigment."
The formula she’s speaking of is Chanel’s new Rouge Coco Stylo Complete Care Lipshine in Histoire ($37), which just debuted. (To define Ridley’s lips she used Chanel Precision Lip Definer in Scarlet, $31, first.) "I liked doing a red lip that was brighter to complement the dress and her skin that was different from a classic red lipstick," sums up the artist.
