Dakota Fanning, Katy Perry Highlight Rodarte's Collab With & Other Stories
Jenny Lewis, Gia Coppola and a bevy of stars feted designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy's latest collab in a cool DTLA loft.
One of the great things about hosting a fashion/celebrity dinner in Los Angeles is all the amazing possible locales and settings — after all, what's a great fashion dinner party without some glamour and drama? That was the case on Monday evening when & Other Stories, H&M's higher-priced sister label, and Rodarte celebrated their new collab in the downtown L.A. loft of artist Elliott Hundley (his work is part of the permanent collections at MOCA, MOMA and the Guggenheim Museum) and his partner, Alphaeus Taylor.
The spacious, artsy space allowed for both an amazing backdrop and one long dining table that held the likes of Katy Perry, Dakota Fanning, Jemima Kirke, Bella Heathcote and new best friend Riley Keough, Zoey Deutch, Rowan Blanchard, artist Miranda July, musician Kim Gordon, Odeya Rush, artist (and great granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway) Langley Fox, Gia Coppola, Lily Stewart, musician Jenny Lewis, model Suvi Koponen, photographer Catherine Opie, and of course, Rodarte sisters and designers Laura and Kate Mulleavy.
The collection's made up of short skirts with leather metallic, sequin wrap dresses, chiffon midi dresses and cool shiny shoes that look very 1920s. Selena Gomez and Chloe Sevigny were among the first to rock pieces from the collab.

To quote the Mulleavy sisters, "Los Angeles was a strong source of inspiration behind the collection, so it was a natural fit to celebrate the & Other Stories launch here in L.A. We were so excited to celebrate at a dinner with inspiring and talented friends. We wanted to create a collection that represents the textures of a California lifestyle. The clothes should easily transition from day to night and transform to one's personal style and individuality. For us, it was important to create go-to staples for one's wardrobe: a great jacket, dress, skirt, blouse, sweater, shoes and a set of jewelry that are completely versatile."
& Other Stories execs who were on hand promised an L.A. store is coming soon (two stores are already opened in New York's Soho and Bryant Park and they are about to open soon in South Coast Plaza), but in the meantime, the website will carry the Rodarte collaboration starting on March 17.
With this collection, Rodarte wanted to use colors and surfaces that create three-dimensionality. Subtle contrasts allowed for the designs to have intricate details and modern, clean lines. They also explored playing with textures such as crushed velvet, suede, mohair, lurex knit, mixed metal and crystal application. Small glimpses of metallic edges create a refraction of light that draws the eye.
Meanwhile, Rodarte's own fall collection recently shown in New York was one of their best, and had editors and stylists swooning, so don't be surprised if you see longtime fans (Dakota Fanning and Kirsten Dunst included) rocking the looks soon.
