Met Gala Beauty: A Breakdown of Dakota Johnson's Graphic Winged Liner

The actress' makeup artist, Pati Dubroff, shares her technique.

When it came to Dakota Johnson’s beauty look for the Met Gala on Monday, makeup artist Pati Dubroff said there was "a nod to punk rock and classic Hollywood, as well as a consideration for the theme — you never want to overdo it and be too literal."

In that spirit, she went with a graphic look that was sexy, to match Johnson's flirty, high-shine Chanel dress. "I was definitely playing up the eye with the eyeliner," Dubroff tells Pret-a-Reporter.

To do that, it was "all about this elongated, graphic, severe, long liner," says Dubroff. "I created the shape using Nars Transvaal Eye Paint ($25) for the shape, then on top of the gray, I went over it with Black Valley and intensified the lines with Nars Eyeliner Stylo ($27). To give it extra sharpness, I went under the black with Nars [Eye Paint in] Porto Venere ($25) for sharp edges."

Of course, the final touches were mascara and, to intensify Johnson's lip color, Nars' Audacious Lipstick in Vanessa ($32).
