The Blur and Gorillaz frontman has already written a pair in "Dr Dee: An English Opera" and "Monkey: Journey to the West."

Blur and Gorrillaz frontman Damon Albarn has revealed he is working on a musical.

This perhaps shouldn't come as much of a surprise, as NME reports, given Albarn has already written two operas: Dr Dee: An English Opera and Monkey: Journey to the West. This, however, will have more mainstream appeal than Albarn's previous works.

Albarn told the Daily Star his new project did not start as a musical. He said, "It's funny for me to say, 'I'm writing a musical,' but yes, that's what I'm doing next…. It's something I've always wanted to do, because musicals are great when they're done well. It started out with the same subject matter but was going to be a left-field, experimental opera. But it's lurched into a mainstream musical for families."

Albarn also teased a possible return to the Gorillaz, saying, "I've found myself writing a lot of uptempo songs that sound like Gorillaz."
