Daniel Kaluuya, Timothee Chalamet Among BAFTA Rising Star Nominees
Florence Pugh, Josh O’Connor and Tessa Thompson also make up the list of nominations.
Daniel Kaluuya, the British actor who shot to fame stateside as the now Golden Globe, SAG Award and Gotham Award-nominated star of Jordan Peele's hit Get Out, and Timothee Chalamet, lauded for his breakout lead role in Call Me By Your Name (and his turn in Lady Bird) are among the nominations for BAFTA's rising star award.
Other nominees include Florence Pugh, who rose to prominence in Lady Macbeth and has landed several major projects – including Netflix's Outlaw King – since; Josh O'Connor, who starred in Florence Foster Jenkins, Peaky Blinders and most recently played the lead in the Brit indie smash God's Own Country; and Tessa Thompson, currently being seen as Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnorok and winner of a Gotham Award for her performance in Dear White People.
The nominees, announced Thursday, were selected by a jury panel that included chair Marc Samuelson, actress Georgina Campbell, film broadcaster Edith Bowman, BAFTA award-winning director Philippa Lowthorpe and casting director Lucy Bevan.
Previous winners include Tom Holland, John Boyega, Jack O'Connell, Will Poulter, Tom Hardy, Eva Green and Shia LaBeouf.
The rising star award will be announced during the BAFTA film ceremony on Feb 18.
