Danny Cohen to bring edgier, youthful makeover to BBC1
BBC 3 controller appointed controller of BBC1
LONDON -- BBC1 could be about to get an edgier and more youthful makeover, after the BBC confirmed Friday that BBC3 controller Danny Cohen has been appointed controller of BBC1.
The former E4 head, who has a slew of ground-breaking commissions under his belt including controversial teen drama "Skins" and comedy shows "The Inbetweeners" and "Fonejacker," will take up the post with immediate effect, retaining oversight of BBC3 until a successor can be found.
After beefing up BBC3's current affairs brief and introducing a new look to the pubcaster's youth-oriented digital channel, Cohen has been the most talked about candidate to succeed Jay Hunt after she defected to head up Channel 4 last month.
Thought to be unhappy at the amount of public exposure that comes with the job of heading Britain's most popular channel, Hunt is now Channel 4's head of content.
