Danny Strong to Write Book for Upcoming Frank Sinatra Musical
The show based on the singer's life and career is set to open in 2020.
Empire co-creator and Hunger Games scribe Danny Strong has been enlisted to write the book for an upcoming musical based on the life and career of music icon Frank Sinatra. The news was announced by the Ambassador Theatre Group, Stewart Till, Frank Sinatra Enterprises and Edward Walson on Friday.
Sinatra The Musical, executive produced by Larry Manetti, is slated to open in 2020 and will feature a number of classic songs from the singer's collection of hits.
"It is an honor to get to write a musical about one of the biggest icons of the 20th century," Strong said in a statement. "Sinatra is one of the great talents of all time and his fascinating and powerful story will make for a terrific stage musical. I'm deeply honored to get this opportunity."
"To have Danny on board is amazing news," said the Ambassador's Adam Speers of the Emmy-winning writer, His previous work speaks for itself and it made perfect sense to have him write the book for what is set to be a unique musical about an all-time Hollywood legend and icon."
Stewart Till added, "Danny Strong's writing is always incredibly entertaining, smart and a huge magnet for audiences. That is why he was our absolute first choice."
Strong has also been tapped to pen Disney’s musical take on Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist, which will be helmed by Thomas Kail and co-produced by star Ice Cube.
