Christopher Nolan's groundbreaking take on Batman will receive an exclusive, one-week showing in four Imax theaters timed to the film's 10th anniversary.

Imax is set to release The Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan's groundbreaking take on the Batman franchise, in four of its theaters to mark the film's 10th anniversary.

The Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Entertainment superhero tentpole, starring Christian Bale as Batman/Bruce Wayne, will receive an exclusive, one-week engagement in 70mm starting Aug. 24.

The Dark Knight, which was released July 18, 2008, was the first major feature to have scenes shot in the Imax format.

Those giant screen sequences were combined with the rest of the film — lensed in 35mm — to produce the final product. The Dark Knight release, which topped out at $1.003 billion worldwide box office in 2008, included the late Heath Ledger with an Oscar-winning performance as the Joker.

A decade later, Imax locations in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Toronto will play The Dark Knight on their giant screens to mark the milestone anniversary. There will be one showing per day.
