Date set for 2010 BRIT Awards

ITV will broadcast ceremony in February

LONDON -- U.K. trade body the BPI has revealed that the BRIT Awards 2010 will take place on Feb. 16 at London's Earls Court Arena.

It will be the 30th occasion on which the British music awards ceremony has been staged. Although the BRIT Awards launched in 1977 -- when it was known as the BPI Awards -- it has only been staged annually since 1982.

Terrestrial broadcaster ITV will again be broadcasting the BRIT Awards live.

The nominations have also been confirmed for Jan. 18, and they have moved to London's IndigO2 venue. The noms will also include live performances and will be broadcast on ITV2.

"For the 30th BRITs show we're planning a landmark event that truly celebrates this occasion," said Ged Doherty, chairman of the BRITs committee. "The BRITs is the U.K. -- and Europe's -- premier music show and one of the biggest media events of the year. The show has seen many changes in recent years and I have no doubt we will continue to build on the spectacular success of this year's show. "

The awards will also continue a sponsorship partnership with global payment card brand MasterCard for the 12th year.
