Dave Grohl Dresses as David Letterman for Halloween 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'
The Foo Fighters frontman, filling in for Kimmel, also urged parents to post videos of them continuing the show's annual Halloween candy prank.
Dave Grohl may have been filling in for Jimmy Kimmel on the Halloween broadcast of ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live!, but the Foo Fighters frontman chose to dress up as another late-night host, David Letterman, as an homage to Grohl's band having performed on the series finale of CBS' The Late Show With David Letterman in 2015.
Grohl also used his time as host to encourage parents to continue Jimmy Kimmel Live's annual prank, “Hey Jimmy Kimmel, I Told My Kids I Ate All Their Halloween Candy."
“With Jimmy out this week, people have been wondering, will his show still be making kids cry on Halloween? And the answer is yes, of course, 100 percent,” Grohl said.
Kicking off Kimmel’s 7th annual Halloween Candy YouTube Challenge, Grohl explained that the viral hit is an important “rite of passage.”
“It’s a rite of passage for children. Like learning the truth about Santa, except what they’re learning is that their parents are sort of dicks,” he joked before showing a clip of a mother telling her son she ate his candy while he was at school. The child began crying and was filmed running out of the house into the neighborhood.
Encouraging viewers to post videos of their children’s reactions, Grohl assured that parents should view it as a chance to “get back” at their kids.
“This is your chance to get back at your kids for making you listen to the Moana soundtrack every day on the way to school," Grohl said.
Kimmel is out from hosting his show this week due to his infant son’s scheduled heart surgery.
