Chris Long, David Ayer's Cedar Park Options 1960s Political Drama 'Cointelpro' (Exclusive)
Set in Chicago, the feature will center on a campaign to tear apart the young Civil Rights movement from the inside.
Cedar Park, the recently launched indie studio from David Ayer and Chris Long, has optioned the script for the real-life political drama Cointelpro.
Set in 1960s Chicago, the feature will chronicle a campaign of lies, sabotage and assassination intended to tear apart the young Civil Rights movement from the inside. "Cointelpro" was the name of a massive rogue spy operation conducted by the FBI targeting progressive political activists.
Cointelpro comes from writing partners Leon Hendrix and Ajani Jackson, who met in Columbia University’s MFA Film program.
Long and Ayer are set to produce the film via Cedar Park, which launched at the beginning of the year. The first project from the banner will be the Starz mob drama Family Crimes, written by Ayer. The company also recently acquired Stephen King’s The Bone Church, with plans to adapt the narrative poem into a dramatic series.
Hendrix, repped by CAA and Grandview, also wrote the Black List script The White Devils. Jackson is repped by Tash Moseley Management. Cedar Park is repped by CAA.
