David Beckham Reveals He Renewed His Vows With Victoria Beckham
The couple have been married for 17 years.
After 17 years of marriage, David and Victoria Beckham are still going strong — and finding ways to celebrate their nuptials.
In an interview with BBC Radio's Desert Island Discs, the former soccer superstar revealed that he and his wife recently renewed their vows.
"We have renewed our vows since [our first wedding]. It was a lot more private, about six people there in our house," Beckham of the intimate occasion, unlike their expensive wedding in 1999, which was held at Luttrellstown Castle, Ireland, and reportedly cost £500,000 ($800,000).
“We're a strong family unit," he continued. "We've got strong parents. We were brought up with the right values. Of course you make mistakes over the years, and we all know marriage is difficult at times. It's about working through it."
Beckham also debunked any rumors that claim the couple only stay together to bolster their brand.
"We know each other better than anybody. People have talked about, 'Do we stay together because it's a brand?' Of course not," he said. "We stay together because we love each other, because we have four amazing children. Do you go through tough times? Of course. That's part of relationships. It's part of marriages. It's part of having children. It's part of having responsibilities."
As for those matching purple outfits from their wedding, David quipped: "What was I thinking? I looked like the guys out of Dumb and Dumber."
