The Soldado crew is adding one more to its ranks.

David Castaneda has joined the production of Lionsgate's follow-up to 2015's Sicario, which will center on the characters portrayed by Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin in the Denis Villeneuve-directed original.

The sequel will follow Del Toro's hitman and Brolin's CIA officer as they kidnap the daughter of a drug cartel’s top gangster in an attempt to start a war within the cartel. Castaneda is joining the cast in a supporting role as a smuggler based on the American side of the border.

Soldado is being directed by Italian helmer Stefano Sollima from a script by Sicario scribe Taylor Sheridan. Jeffrey Donovan and Catherine Keener also star in the feature, which is being co-financed by Lionsgate and Black Label.

Castaneda recently appeared in Sony’s horror-comedy Freaks of Nature, opposite Vanessa Hudgens and Bob Odenkirk. He is repped by Don Buchwald and Associates and Colin Stark.
