David Hyde Pierce Joins 'Hello, Dolly!' on Broadway
Bette Midler will star in Jerry Zaks' revival of the beloved musical at the Shubert Theater, starting in March.
Hello, David Hyde Pierce.
The actor will join previously announced star Bette Midler in Hello, Dolly! on Broadway, producer Scott Rudin announced Tuesday. The revival will begin performances on March 13, 2017, and officially open April 20 at the Shubert Theatre.
Four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks will direct the Broadway revival of the beloved musical, which features a score by Jerry Herman and book by Michael Stewart. Tony winner Warren Carlyle (After Midnight) will choreograph the show, paying tribute to the work of the original 1964 production's director-choreographer Gower Champion.
Based on Thornton Wilder’s farce The Matchmaker, Hello, Dolly! premiered on Broadway in 1964 with Carol Channing in the title role. It won 10 Tony Awards and ran for seven years.
Pierce last appeared onstage on Broadway in 2013's Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike and won a Tony for best actor in a musical in 2007 for Curtains. He also directed the musical comedy It Shoulda Been You in 2015.
