'Wire' creator will be joined at TV fest by star Dominic West

LONDON -- "The Wire" creator David Simon will deliver a masterclass at this year's Edinburgh International Television Festival, it was announced Tuesday.

The award-winning TV producer, journalist and author will talk about his early career as a crime reporter and the inspiration behind shows like "The Wire," as well as his influence on such shows as "Homicide: Life on the Street" and "Generation Kill."

Dominic West, British star of "The Wire" and Channel 4's "The Devil's Whore," also will be a guest at this year's festival, which runs Aug. 28-30.

Sheffield-born West played the gritty hard-drinking police detective Jimmy McNulty in "The Wire." He also is a theater and film actor.

Already confirmed speakers at this year's festival include James Murdoch, chairman and chief executive, Europe and Asia at News Corp., who will deliver this year's opening keynote MacTaggart lecture.
