David Zabel inks deal at Sony TV

'ER' showrunner signs two-script pact with studio

After eight years at "ER," exec producer/showrunner David Zabel is segueing into development.

In a competitive situation with several studios and networks, Sony Pictures TV has signed Zabel to a rich two-script deal.

Under the one-year pact, said to be worth nearly $1 million, Zabel will write two series projects for the studio whose concepts haven't been determined.

Zabel joined "ER" in 2001 as an executive story editor and rose through the ranks. He was at the helm of the venerable medical drama for the past 41⁄2 years, including the show's final season that ended Thursday.

Zabel, whose credits also include "Dark Angel" and "JAG," is repped by WMA and attorney Ken Richman.
