De Angeles Films Invests in Raven Banner to Expand Canadian Distribution
The financing deal has the U.S.-based 'Hellbenders' co-producer cementing its ties to the genre film market north of the border.
U.S.-based De Angeles Films has expanded its foothold in Canada by striking a financing deal with Canadian genre film distributor Raven Banner Entertainment.
The seven-figure deal aims to bolster Raven Banner as it continues to acquire or co-produce genre titles. "Raven Banner understands the growing Canadian marketplace and how to capitalize on the opportunities that exist," De Angeles managing partners Gregor Habsburg and Jacquelyn Frisco said Tuesday in a statement.
De Angeles' movie production credits include Coffee, Kill Boss, the 3D horror-comedy Hellbenders, which the company co-produced, and the horror flick June, an in-house production that stars The Walking Dead actor Kennedy Brice and is being sold worldwide by Raven Banner.
"Having already established a strong relationship with De Angeles Films, we felt like this was an excellent opportunity to team with people we know and trust," Raven Banner managing partner James Fler said in his own statement.
Raven Banner's Canadian release slate includes Don Coscarelli's John Dies at the End, the Paul Giamatti-starring comic-horror pic; Cabin Fever: Patient Zero, the reboot of Eli Roth's horror film franchise; and Odd Thomas, the adaptation of the Dean Koontz book starring Anton Yelchin and Willem Dafoe.
The pact was negotiated by Habsburg and Frisco for De Angeles and Shahrokh Sheik of Kramer Holcomb Sheik LLP, and Raven Banner managing partners Fler, Michael Paszt and Andrew Hunt.
