De Mol opens L.A. office

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands -- Dutch entertainment company Talpa Media, owned by TV mogul John de Mol, has opened an outpost in Los Angeles, the company announced Wednesday.

Under the banner of Talpa Content USA, the new office aims to contact U.S. producers of nonfiction programs for television, and to collaborate with developers of multiplatform formats and user-generated content.

Canadian Stefanie Gelinas has been appointed as managing director of Talpa Contect USA. She worked previously for ProSiebenSat.1, Endemol Germany and Fremantle Media North America.

"Nowhere in the world will you find so many people with creative ideas as in the U.S.," de Mol said. "Many of them do want to negotiate extensively with broadcasters. We work much faster and are willing to take risks. If we like an idea pitched in the U.S., we develop it further in our main office in the Netherlands."
