HONG KONG -- Comedy-drama "Ded Na Si Lolo," by Soxie Topacio will represent the Philippines in the annual race for the foreign-language Academy Award.
The film, produced by APT Entertainment and the Directors Guild of the Philippines, was selected by the Film Academy of the Philippines from a shortlist of a dozen movies.
"Ded" stars child actor BJ Forbes as a youngster who notes the many superstitious rituals followed by his family in the six days following the death of his grandfather. It also stars Elizabeth Oropesa, Gina Alajar, Roderick Paulate, Manilyn Reynes and Dick Israel.
"The film was primarily made to benefit a scholarship for children in need. That it has been given this honor is an incredible blessing," said Tony Tuviera of APT.
It was released locally in May.
