The former NFL player was speaking to Larry King and gave his reaction to the St. Louis Rams cutting Sam from the team

CBS Sports and NFL Football analyst Deion Sanders told Larry King that Michael Sam, the first openly gay player drafted by the NFL, could be gay "by choice."

King interviewed Sanders for an episode of the online talk show Larry King Now. The site offered sneak peaks of the show on Friday.

During the interview, King asked Sanders for his reaction to the St. Louis Rams recently cutting Sam from the team. Sanders replied with an anecdote about a cousin who is gay. "I don't love what he do, but I love him as a man. I'm not saying I condone it, but I don't condemn it," Sanders said.

King asked if Sanders believes being gay is a choice. "It could be," Sanders said.

Sanders said the two men could engage in a theological conversation and added, "The God I know don't make mistakes."
