Deluxe acquires Atlab

Sale includes facilities in Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland

Deluxe Entertainment Services Group is expanding its reach in Australia and New Zealand.

The company acquired Australian film processing laboratory business Atlab, which has been a joint venture between Australia-based Amalgamated Holdings Limited and Deluxe. On Friday, Deluxe purchased the remaining shares from AML, in a deal valued at $1.5 million.

The sale includes Atlab's film processing/post facilities in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland. These operations -- which service feature films, television and commercial business -- will be rebranded Deluxe Sydney, Deluxe Melbourne, and Deluxe Auckland with the management team remaining in place.

The Sydney base of Atlab including digital intermediate services, set up in the style of Deluxe's EFILM DI business; and a newly-built sound mixing facility, with a 400-channel mixing stage.

"This next step will strengthen our ability to service the film and postproduction needs of our clients in the southern hemisphere," said Deluxe president/CEO Cyril Drabinsky.

Deluxe-a wholly-owned subsidiary of MacAndrews and Forbes Holdings-also maintains laboratory and postproduction facilities in Hollywood, Toronto, Vancouver, New York, London, Madrid, Barcelona and Rome.
