Sony's latest reimagining of the Japanese video game will be directed by Nicolas Pesce.

Demian Bichir has joined Andrea Riseborough in Sony's latest take on The Grudge.

Eyes of My Mother helmer Nicolas Pesce will direct the new adaptation of the blockbuster supernatural thriller for Sam Raimi's Ghost House and Good Universe, starting in May. Bichir’s performance in the 2011 drama A Better Life earned him an Academy Award nomination.

The CAA-repped actor is set as the male lead in ABC's drama pilot Grand Hotel, which is being executive produced by Eva Longoria.

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions snapped up worldwide rights to the Grudge reboot. SPWA, Ghost House and Good Universe last worked together on Don't Breathe.

Raimi and Rob Tapert will produce for Ghost House, with Nathan Kahane and Erin Westerman exec producing for Good Universe, alongside Schuyler Weiss, Roy Lee and Doug Davison. Romel Adam will oversee production for Ghost House and Brady Fujikawa will oversee for Good Universe.

"We are so excited about this new adaptation. ... We went back to the original source material to deliver a relentless supernatural thrill ride that explores the horrors of American suburbia," Raimi said in a statement.
