Denise Donlon tapped to lead CBC radio

Named exec director, replacing Jennifer McGuire

TORONTO -- The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. has tapped former TV host and Sony Music Canada head Denise Donlon to run its English-language radio service.

The pubcaster on Wednesday named Donlon executive director of radio, effective Sept. 29, replacing Jennifer McGuire, who left the CBC in May.

Donlon first gained renown during the 1980s as the on-screen host and producer of MuchMusic, Canada's cable music channel, where she became general manager in 1997.

In 2000, she was appointed president of Sony Music Canada for four years. More recently, Donlon produced live events, including charity fundraisers for President Clinton.

CBC radio recently provoked a backlash from older listeners after it largely replaced classical music on one of its national networks, CBC 2, with homegrown roots, blues, rock and folk music.
