Dergarabedian launches b.o. firm


Longtime boxoffice analyst and employee of Exhibitor Relations Paul Dergarabedian has launched a boxoffice tracking and analysis firm, Media by Numbers. Starting today, the company will be focused on analyzing and reporting boxoffice trends for the film industry, hoping to expand into other distribution platforms as they develop in the digital space.

Backed by private funding, Dergarabedian, the chief boxoffice analyst at Exhibitor Relations for 14 years, hopes to work with all major and independent feature film distributors and the members of the theatrical exhibition community.

"We hope to take what we do best to a whole new level in terms of client services and products," Dergarabedian said. "In the beginning, we are going to be focusing on the theatrical boxoffice. But with so much happening in the digital space -- with movie downloads and how content is being delivered -- anyone tracking that information has to adapt to that new marketplace. We want to offer our clients a broader view of the world of entertainment. The more information these industry professionals have, the better their ability to make decisions."

Mariana Pisterman will be joining Media by Numbers as director of operations. She has been with Exhibitor Relations for four years. Exhibitor Relations, the boxoffice tracking company initially founded by Nat Fellman in 1974, recently was sold to Robert Bucksbaum, head of ReelSource Inc. and owner of Westwood's Crest Theatre. Calls to Bucksbaum were not returned at press time.

Dergarabedian has yet to sign any clients, but according to the analyst, "I'm looking forward to developing future clientele with much anticipation."
