Deutsche Telekom Stocks up HD Offering with Syfy, TNT, AXN
German telco giant signs multiple deals for IPTV service Entertain
BERLIN -- German telco giant Deutsche Telekom has bulked up its HD-TV offering, signing carriage deals with Syfy, TNT, AXN and local sports network Sport 1 to carry HD versions of their channels on Telekom's IPTV service Entertain.
Telekom also signed HD-TV agreements with classic music channel Classica and nature documentary net Planet.
The deals are Telekom's latest attack on German pay TV competitor Sky Deutschland, which has also recently expanded its HD-TV service. Sky, which is controlled by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp, has just over 2.5 million subscribers in Germany to barely 1 million for Entertain. But Telekom's IPTV service is growing fast. Entertain added 364,000 customers over the past 12 months, while Sky booked a net increase of just 45,000 for the same period.
