Dev Patel Joins Armando Iannucci's 'David Copperfield' Film
The Oscar-nominated 'Lion' star is set to appear in the fresh take on the Charles Dickens masterpiece.
Dev Patel, who has been largely quiet since his Oscar-nominated turn in Lion, has landed a role in hot Berlin project The Personal History of David Copperfield from Emmy-winning Veep creator Armando Iannucci.
A fresh take of Charles Dickens' autobiographical masterpiece, the film — written by Iannucci and Simon Blackwell — is set to start production in the U.K. in June and will be Iannucci's third movie as director after the Oscar-nominated In the Loop and Death of Stalin, with the latter nominated for outstanding British film and adapted screenplay at the upcoming BAFTA Awards.
Kevin Loader and Iannucci will produce the feature. FilmNation is introducing The Personal History of David Copperfield to buyers at EFM in Berlin.
Patel recently premiered his directorial debut, a short film titled Home Shopper, at the Sundance Film Festival and is currently working on the Sony drama The Wedding Guest. He also toplines the real-life drama Hotel Mumbai, which is currently in limbo at The Weinstein Co.
Patel is repped by WME, the U.K.'s Curtis Brown, Magnolia and Lichter Grossman.
