Developing situation for 'Dad!'s' Khan

"American Dad!" writer- producer Nahnatchka Khan has inked a two-year overall deal with the animated comedy's producer, 20th Century Fox Television.

Under the seven-figure pact, Khan will be upped from supervising producer to co-executive producer on "Dad!" and also will develop projects for the studio.

"There are not a lot of writers out there with experience in animation and live-action comedy, but Nahnatchka brings a track record of success in both, which is hugely valuable to this studio," 20th TV president Dana Walden said. "She's also an incredibly likable, gifted comedic writer whose take on the world is as original as it is funny."

Khan has been on "Dad!" since the show's beginning. "Dad!" created by "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman, is returning for a third season in the fall and was recently picked up for a fourth season (HR 6/21).

"It's been an amazing experience," Khan said. "I love Matt, Mike and the rest of the guys, and Seth is the writer's best friend — he makes not-funny lines funny."

Khan got her start in kids animated series at Walt Disney Television Animation after graduating from USC's film school. She worked her way into primetime with gigs on such series as Fox's "Malcolm in the Middle," WB Network's "What I Like About You" and NBC's "Good Morning, Miami."

After working on shows for a while, Khan said she is excited to try her hand at development under her first overall deal.

"I'm really happy that my first shot at development would be at 20th TV," she said. "What an awesome place to be."

Khan is repped by Endeavor and attorney Marc Rindner.
