DGA gives Ryan, Roche career nods

Liz Ryan, an assistant director on TV shows including "NYPD Blue" and "The Office," and Barbara J. Roche, a stage manager on "The Jeffersons," "General Hospital" and other programs, will receive DGA Awards for career achievement, the guild said Thursday.

Ryan will receive the 2008 Frank Capra Achievement Award, which is given to an assistant director or unit production manager for career achievement and service to the DGA.

Roche will receive the 2008 Franklin J. Schaffner Achievement Award, bestowed to an associate director or stage manager for career achievement and guild service.

"The DGA's special awards epitomize the distinguished work and dedicated service to the guild that we prize so highly among our members," DGA president Michael Apted said. "It is our honor to recognize this year's special award winners for the dedication they have shown in their careers and in their service as members of the DGA."

Both awards will be presented Jan. 26 at the 60th annual DGA Awards gala at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.
