Diddy Arrested on UCLA Campus, Charged With Assault With Deadly Weapon

The rapper's son is a defensive back on the university's team.

Rapper Diddy was arrested Monday by the UCLA Police Department following an altercation on the campus, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The music mogul was charged with assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly threatening someone with a kettlebell weight shortly after noon, UCLA director of community relations Nancy Greenstein told THR. Diddy is currently in custody.

TMZ reports that Diddy, whose 21-year-old son Justin is a defensive back on the university's team, was threatening an assistant coach who had been yelling at Justin.

"We are aware of the reports and are looking into the matter," UCLA director of media relations Phil Hampton said in a statement. "We will share confirmed facts when they are available."

UCLA football coach Jim Mora praised his staff for remaining professional throughout the incident.

"This is an unfortunate incident for all parties involved," Mora said in a statement. "While UCPD continues to review this matter, we will let the legal process run its course and refrain from further comment at this time."

Justin saw action in four games for UCLA last season, playing on special teams and as a backup in the secondary. He earned one tackle in a game against USC.

This is not Diddy's first run-in with the law. He picked up four weapons-related charges and a bribery charge stemming from a December 1999 shooting at a Manhattan nightclub. Diddy was found not guilty on all charges.

A rep for Diddy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
