Digest: 'Miracle' meat; HD conference
Where's the beef? Just ask the marketers at 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. In one of the more unusual cross-promotions the home video industry has seen, the studio is partnering with Land O'Frost, the country's third-largest brand of packaged luncheon meats, to promote "Miracle on 34th Street: Special Edition." Consumers are invited to submit an essay detailing their most miraculous holiday memory; the winner gets a trip for four to New York, where the film was shot. Entry forms are included on about 6 million packages of Land O'Frost lunch meats. The deli pouches also include a $3 mail-in rebate offer on six different Fox holiday DVDs, among them "Home Alone: Family Fun Edition" and "It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie: Special Edition."
A sneak peak at what the studios have in store next year for Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD will highlight High Def 2.0, a daylong conference being held TuesdayDec. 4 at the Hyatt Regency Plaza Century City Hotel in Century City. The conference, produced by Home Media Magazine in cooperation with The Hollywood Reporter, also will take a look at high-def media applications in the consumer electronics, computer and audio markets.
