Digital Studio Portal A Snags Electus Exec Evan Bregman (Exclusive)

Digital studio Portal A has hired former Electus executive Evan Bregman in an effort to build out its original content business. 

Bregman, who was previously executive director of digital media at Electus, will head original content for the San Francisco-based company. In his new role he will be charged with creating a slate of projects to present to digital buyers as well as television networks. He will also develop content in partnership with YouTube creators. Bregman starts Monday and will be based out of Portal A's Los Angeles office. 

At Electus, Bregman was executive producer on a number of scripted and non-scripted projects, including Amazon children's pilot Maker Shack Agency and rap battle league Total Slaughter. He previously worked with Electus founder and chairman Ben Silverman at NBC. 

Founded in 2008 as an original content producer, Portal A created web series White Collar Brawlers, which now airs on the Esquire network. However, in recent years the company has primarily focused on branded content for clients that range from Google to Banana Republic. Co-founder and creative director Kai Hasson says that Portal A has been looking to expand its projects beyond branded content and has hired Bregman to lead the charge. 

"We're trying to build a team that has a lot of experience — people that have touched different parts of the industry," he says. "The idea is that we'll be able to bring together really cool projects that are one part YouTube creator, one part Hollywood studio and a couple parts branded content." 

Portal A also recently hired Jacob Motz, formerly head of production at YouTube multichannel network Fullscreen, to be a senior producer in Los Angeles.
